Mindset & Mentorship

COMPLETE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

80% Mental, 20% Physical

At the highest levels of basketball, everyone is athletic and everyone can shoot. The difference between a good player and a great one is often mental. At X-Factor, we treat the mind as a muscle that needs to be trained just as rigorously as the body.

Our Mindset & Mentorship program is designed for serious athletes (6th Grade & up) who want to unlock their full potential. Through classroom-style education and open dialogue, we teach athletes how to handle pressure, lead their teammates, and maintain unwavering confidence when the game is on the line.

LEADERSHIP & IQ

Inside the Classroom

We move off the court and into the classroom to dissect the psychological aspects of the game. We help athletes navigate the challenges of competitive sports and life.

Our mentorship curriculum includes:

Confidence Building:

Techniques to silence self-doubt and perform freely during high-pressure moments.

Leadership Skills:

How to be a vocal leader, hold teammates accountable, and set the tone for a team culture.

Basketball IQ:

Studying game situations to improve decision-making speed and understanding time, score, and momentum.

Resilience:

Learning how to bounce back from a bad game, a turnover, or a missed shot without losing focus.

The "Pro" Work Ethic:

Understanding the sacrifice, routine, and discipline required to play at the collegiate and professional levels.

PRO-LEVEL MENTORSHIP

The Xavier Allen Advantage

Your team will not be trained by a volunteer dad or a novice coach. They will be trained by a New York State scoring champion (32 PPG) and active professional player.

Xavier Allen brings the intensity of the pro game to Long Island. Having spent time in the gym with NBA stars like Jimmy Butler and Kevin Love, Xavier knows exactly what the highest level looks like. He demands that same level of focus and effort from every athlete who steps into our gym.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about our mindset and mentorship sessions.

Is this a physical workout?

No. Our Mindset & Mentorship sessions are primarily classroom-based or discussion-based. While we may use film or court demonstrations, the focus is on mental education, not physical exertion.

Is this sports psychology?

We focus on "performance coaching" and mentorship based on professional experience. We teach athletes how to apply a professional mindset to their game. We are not clinical psychologists; we are mentors who have lived the basketball journey.

Do you do this 1-on-1 or in groups?

We offer both. 1-on-1 mentorship is great for athletes struggling with specific confidence issues, while group sessions are excellent for teaching leadership and communication dynamics among peers.

Will this help with things outside of basketball?

Absolutely. The traits we teach, discipline, resilience, leadership, and focus, are directly transferable to school, family life, and future careers. We build better people, not just better players.

Who leads these sessions?

These sessions are led personally by Xavier Allen and select senior staff members who have played at the collegiate or professional level. We share real-life stories and lessons from our own careers.

Can parents sit in?

We generally encourage athletes to attend these sessions independently to foster independence and open communication. However, we are happy to provide a summary of topics covered to parents afterward.
